Lulemon cracks Australian market with Sydney store

Wednesday 11 July, 2007

LululemonLulemon Athletica aims to grab a slice of Australia's growing appetite for yoga with the opening of a Sydney store this month.

The Canadian clothing company will open its first Australian branch on July 15, at the Warringah Mall in Brookvale.

In recent years, yoga has become popular among traditional Australian athletes looking to gain an edge in their primary sport.

More people participate in yoga than play Australian Rules football, according to a 2003 study.

"It's high time that Sydney-siders are able to experience the athletic wear phemomemon of Lulemon that has taken North America by storm", says David Lawn, the company representative in Australia.

As well as selling yoga clothes, the Sydney store will offer workshop and weekly classes.

Lulemon Athletica was founded in 1988 and now has 53 locations across Canada, the USA, Australia and Japan.
