The second International Yoga Therapy Conference (IYTC) has taken place in California.
The three-day conference, Yoga for Health (May 18-12), was designed to make the therapeutic side of yoga accessible to yoga practitoners and the public, as well as health professionals and therapists.
Antonio Sausys, conference director and expert in the field of yoga for grief, says: "The integration of mind and body is very important for the healing process, and the conference will present some of the key areas where they come together in the practice of yoga as therapy."
A series of workshops and classes covered topics such as depression, respiratory illnesses, and cancer treatment, held at the Peacock Gap Country Club, San Rafael.
Among the speakers was Robin Monro, founder of the Yoga Biomedical Trust; Rama Jyoti Vernon, co-founder of Yoga Journal, and Larry Paye, co-author of Yoga for Dummies.
The IYTC - which is also involved in the production of yoga and yoga therapy seminars and events across the US - was founded by in 2004.
Yoga Therapy is gaining increasing recognition as a holistic form of treating certain illnesses - and aims to bridge the (significant) gap between yoga and the medical establishment.
