Indian yoga guru completes UK tour

Tuesday 29 August, 2006

Indian yoga guru Swami Ramdev is finishing a tour of the UK involving yoga classes and breathing workshops. Ramdev runs a daily exercise programme on Indian channel Asatha TV which has become the highest rating programme in India and is now broadcast internationally.

Followers of the guru - who comes from a poor farming family in India - regard him as a reincarnation of Hindu god Lord Rama.

The UK tour has included twice daily sessions in a social club in North Harrow, where he was handed a plate in recognition for his achievements. He also held classes in Ilford, Leicester and Bolton.

Ramdev ran into controversy earlier at the beginning of this year when he was accused of using human and animal bones in his herbal medicines. He was cleared of the allegations in March.
