Summer festivals, yoga style

Wednesday 2 June, 2010

As the Great British Summer approches, and we all cross fingers for lashings of sunshine, a cluster of tempting-sounding UK yoga festivals are just round the corner. Two have caught my eye in recent weeks.#

The first is a The Isle of Wight Yoga Camp, running from June 18-20: a chance, say the organisers, 'to practice, and celebrate yoga and many other complementing activities, in the fresh air and under canvas.'

The event will be set beneath the rolling downs of Ashey, in the fields of Nunwell Farm, where an enormous, 12m yurt, plus tipis and a smaller yurt, will take centre stage.

Children and families welcome - ticket prices are £100 for adults, £50 for students, and kids go free. For more info, check out the Facebook page here, or email Emma at iowyogacamp@googlemail.com

The other is the Santosa Pan Yoga Gathering, taking place near Glasbonbury from August 23-28. The event is billed as eco-friendly and simple: camping in the meadow, compost loos, lots of yoga, no alcohol, family-friendly.

The full schedule includes pranayama, asana, meditation, chanting, workshops, relaxation, camp fires. Price of entry is according to earnings, and starts from £15 for an adult day rate. For more information, see the website here.

Other yoga-themed festivals for Summer 2010 include The Kundalini Yoga Festival UK, the IYN Midsummer Yoga Festival, and Yoga Village in Guernsey this  September.

It's time, I reckon, to brave the spiders in the shed, dust off that tent, and invest in a good quality air bed that won't deflate in the middle of the night.

How we view the world is largely a result of past experience and conditioning.
