Meditation offered to City workers

Sunday 2 November, 2008

As meditation becomes more mainstream, and the benefits increasingly documented by research, stressed-out city workers are the latest group to benefit.

A report in this weekend's The Observer states that 50-minute meditation classes will run every Wednesday from this week, at London's Barbican.

Run by Vincent Baasch of consultancy The Third Factor, the paper sees the move as more evidence that meditation is being used by businesses to help employees' concentration levels.

There's no doubt that a growing body of evidence points to the advantages - which include improved concentration, lower blood pressure and reduced stress levels - of a regular meditation practice.

As the practice becomes increasingly demystified, I have no doubt more firms will be employing meditation (as well as yoga) teachers to help frayed nerves and mounting pressure among staff.

Reebok and PricewaterhouseCoopers are among the big firms already encouraging staff to meditate. Three cheers to the innovators!
